About this Project

The Beatrice Morrow is an 87,858-square foot mixed-use development in Portland’s Eliot neighborhood, located on the site of a former warehouse. The building provides 80 units of rental housing at or below 60% of the area median income. The project is an important piece of PCRI’s Pathway 1000 plan, which envisions 1,000 new affordable housing units by the end of the decade.

The building offers spacious Studio, 1-, 2-, and 3-bedroom floorplans to tenants, with priority given to historic residents of North and Northeast Portland. The five-story development includes 2,500-square feet of amenities, including a courtyard, community room, ground floor storefronts, a computer lab available to all residents, and parking for 112 bicycles. The project design and amenities were developed with significant input from community members through public forums and outreach.
The building is named after Oregon civil rights activist Beatrice Morrow Cannady, who served as the editor of The Advocate newspaper and was the Vice President and Co-Founder of the Portland NAACP. Art throughout the building honors her legacy, produced by local African-American artists.

JLD provided a comprehensive cost estimate for this project, including all construction costs, site improvements, equipment, finishes, and labor. This project achieved LEED Gold Certification, and was completed in 2018.
